BUSTED: 3 Common PR Myths & Why They Are Untrue
Hiring a public relations firm to handle your image is a smart move for any business owner. You get the benefit of a team dedicated to helping you grow on social media, boosting your visibility, and protecting your image.
Unfortunately, common misconceptions can cause business owners to feel skeptical to hire a professional or even come into the business partnerships with high expectations. So we made a list of some common PR myths and explain why they are untrue.
You Own A Small Business So You Don’t Need A PR Firm
This is completely untrue for two reasons.
1. If you are selling something, whether it be services or products, you need people to see it in order for it to sell. A PR firm can expand your reach beyond your current audience, possibly bringing you new clients and growing your audience.
2. Just because you are a small business does not that PR is not relevant to you.You work hard and you deserve success; PR is just another tool in the toolbox that can help you reach you goals and a professional firm can help you get to the next level.
You Will See Instant Results
99 times out of 100, success does not happen overnight. You can not expect your client roster to be overflowing after just one article in the media. Building brand recognition takes time and patience.
That doesn’t mean you can’t see great results from one article. But don’t get ahead of yourself in expecting to become a Fortune 500 company right away. Keep pushing, and don’t give up!
Anyone Can Do PR
I am not at all saying that you can’t do your own PR and be successful. However, as a business owner, you already have a laundry list of things you need to tackle. That list can become overwhelming without help.
The best thing you can do for yourself as a business owner is to run down that list and start delegating the tasks that you are not all that familiar with. Hand it over to someone who knows what they are doing and can be an asset to your business. If you don’t delegate, you run the risk of overworking yourself and eventually suffering from burnout.
Public relations is a fantastic tool if used correctly. But you have to remember that you CAN use a firm even if you are a small business, but keep your expectations reasonable, and try not to stretch yourself too thin by doing it all yourself.
